Back to School

Well, I've started school back. I suppose that's worth a blog post. First impressions on the professors--all of them are in the good to great range.

After three years of college, I finally am going to learn actual forecasting! Everything up to this point has been the background math and physics--how it all works. How to apply that to a forecast? I have no idea. Sounds a lot like my life. Sometimes I can describe a spiritual or life concept forwards and backwards, even blog about it--yet still have no idea how to apply it.

So, I'm sure you are wondering what I am learning. Well...maybe you aren't. But I'll tell you anyway. The picture on the right--that is a Navajo wedding basket. The red line represents balance or equilibrium. All things seek equilibrium. But, as my Synoptic professor put it, "No one said anything about easy." Around the red line there is a kind of wavy pattern oscillating around the red line. That is life. We try to walk the straight and narrow path, but reality is a series of ups and downs. As a side note, light works the same way--it travels in a straight line, but a closer look reveals it's true nature is a wave. Or maybe that's just the nature of a straight line. Anyway, the Navajo wedding basket illustrates what is known as LeChatelier's principle (look it up). And yes...I did learn all of this in a meteorology class.
