When everything else crumbles, what is left?
When you lose your job, when your wealth flies away
When you lose your friends, when your reputation's stained
When you lose your health, when your body breaks like clay
When you can't hear God, when you don't know how to pray
What is left?
When what is true becomes false and what is false becomes true
When promises made, broken leave you dismayed
Who will you trust in?
What can never become false, what can never be broken?
When your world falls apart and everything is lost
When there is pain and there is suffering and your direction seems tossed
When you've fallen and sinned and can't pay the cost
Who will hold you?
What hands will never let you go?
When everything else crumbles, what is left? What can stand the test?
A friend? A book? A song? A rule?
You wisdom? Your fame? Your riches? Your good deeds?
When everything else crumbles, all that is left is my Father--who stretched out the universe and created you and me in His image. He looks down on man and desires to dwell with us. He desires to know me and be known by me. He desires to know you and be known by you.
He will never be false, He will stand by His word. He will never let go, He will catch us when we fall. He shall stand through all things--His love shall stand through all things.
Though every doctrine be proven false, every friend proven a traitor, every joy found to be sorrow, every strong tower more brittle than clay--When everything else crumbles, I will rest in Him.
